Tips People Don't Normally Think of When Preparing for a Hurricane:
If you have lived in Florida for a while these tips might be second nature to you but if not we hope they help!
- Back up anything important into a cloud storage service. Family photos, important documents, anything you would miss that can be stored electronically.
- Take photos of everything in your home and store it in the cloud. If something happens to your home it helps with insurance claims.
- Fill up your bathtubs with water. If your water stops working you can always use the water to flush your toilets.
- If you have a generator and have not tested it in a while chances are it might not work. Most generators need to be ran every couple months so be sure to test it first!
- Storm shutters are great but make sure you know how to exit your home incase the main exit gets blocked. You don't want to find yourself locked in!
- Fill big Tupperware with water and freeze them ahead of time. It can keep your freezer items colder longer without the mess.
- If you have a pool and plastic outdoor furniture you can always put the patio furniture in the pool if you don't have enough space in the garage.
- Back your car into your garage and if you can't, back it up close to your garage. This can help protect both your home and car as well as having your car ready for a fast departure.
- Make a go bag, if you need to evacuate to leave your home quickly everything you need is packed and ready to go saving you time when you need it the most.
- Looking for water but it's sold out at the grocery store? Look at office supply stores, Total Wine, Dollar stores, places that sell water that most people don't think about.
- A jar of peanut butter and a box of crackers can go along way to keeping you full when the power goes out. Think of high protein foods that won't go bad.
- If you have filtered water, fill up water bottles, pots and pans for additional drinking water.
We hope these help! Stay safe and let us know how we can help! Always check in with local news resources and keep up to date on storm developments.
